At Missouri Girls Town, we believe in the power of creativity, connection and community—and our recent visit to the Old Pharmacy Ceramic Shoppe in Mexico, Missouri was a beautiful example of all three.
The girls spent the afternoon exploring their artistic sides, choosing from a wide variety of ceramic pieces to paint and make their own. From delicate figurines to bold mugs and decorative plates, each girl picked something that spoke to her personality. With brushes in hand and palettes full of vibrant color, they poured their hearts into every stroke.
Art has long been known as a powerful outlet for self-expression for people of all ages, and this experience offered the youth more than just a fun escape from routine. It gave them a chance to express themselves in ways words sometimes can’t. Whether through soft pastels or bold, bright hues, each piece became a reflection of who they are and how they see the world—and that’s something truly special.
But the joy didn’t stop at the art table. Outings like this are also an important part of developing social skills and building friendships. As they laughed, chatted and encouraged each other’s creativity, the girls practiced communication, collaboration and the kind of uplifting peer support that helps build confidence.
We’re so thankful to the Old Pharmacy Ceramic Shoppe for welcoming us with open arms and providing a space where our girls could create freely, be themselves, and enjoy a day of discovery and fun.
It was more than just a painting project—it was a reminder that every young person has something beautiful to share, especially when given the tools, the time and the support to let their true colors shine.
