Each week youth participate in multiple group therapy sessions. Groups session topics include trauma, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, Improving Campus Environment (ICE), Independent Living Skills and Recreation. Group therapy sessions are facilitated by a licensed therapist.
In one of our trauma groups on campus, Meg Linear, LCSW, educated clients about trauma. Youth utilized the information and related it to their own past experiences. They also learned about resilience in relation to healing from trauma. Each individual wrote “I Am” poems in Group to provide creative insight about their own healing journeys.
This poem was written by one of our young women…
I AM
I am funny, sassy and dramatic
I wonder if I will be this way forever
I hear laughter
I see me living a happy life
I want to go to a transitional living placement
I am funny, sassy and dramatic
I pretend everything is great
I feel lonely and weak
I touch this paper and pencil
I worry if people actually love me
I cry about my past
I am not ok
I understand people come and go
I say everything is temporary
I dream about having a mom that loves me
I try to find people that love me
I hope I can have a mom one day
I am funny, sassy and dramatic
